This platform bed, which I like, evokes a question. How much money are you willing to spend to have UNDER your mattress? This is an extravagant design. Big and beautiful solid wood planks. 84% of which are under the mattress. Now I can tell it’s a luxury platform bed. I can see someone spent some money because they are committed to the style, materials and looks. Stupid and vacuous? Yes, all luxury has some level of ridiculousness. But isn’t why it’s called luxury. So as opposed to a piece of clothing, car or shoes you can show off, how much are you willing to spend under your mattress? Side note: Look at the f-in wave on the wall. That guy will be pummeled badly.

The Platform Bed Commitment

It can be hard to change your style. You can’t just jump from an all 50′s decor to country kitsch overnight. This photo shows you what can happen when you just jump into something head first. You end up with a giant concrete platform bed with a theatre emergency light as a reading lamp. I actually like brutal interiors, mainly because I have a penis, but concrete is very cold to the touch. Is it the juxtaposition of warm to cold? Is this somewhere it is always hot? Is there a hot water system pulsing through the monolithic concrete structure? One thing is for sure, these people have commitment. Maybe there is a body in there.

Hard, soft and well lit.

Southern Yellow Pine Platform Bed

All kidding aside, I like this room. It is slightly prisonesque, but it’s pretty baller. At first glance, it seems like concrete walls but I think just grey washed planking. What you can see of the platform bed shows me it’s a custom job because no one would make a platform bed out of southern yellow pine unless you went to home depot alot in Raleigh, NC. But…it works for me. The bed looks comfy and modern, the walls are cool, the furnishings spare and there is a light! I think this could be pulled off in any old McMansion too. A little slice of nice in 10,000 square feet of foreclosure hell….Let’s get small people, let’s get small.

This must be an artist’s room. Otherwise, why have a double noose hanging from the ceiling? And what the hell is that supposed to signify anyway? God, so many questions and no answers. And now I just took another look at the picture and there is a framed portrait of a very happy set of lady parts. Hey, nice bed!

I think the platform bed is the perfect palette (not pallet!) to express quirkiness. Funky blankets, crazy duvets and pillows that say stupid stuff. Why not? I hate when a house if full of knick-knacks from a decorator. It’s like the spirit of crate and barrel lives there instead of actual people. So here is some funky pillows and a horrifying bed spread…

If you have been following my vendetta against pallet-based platform beds, and jeez who hasn’t, you might have noticed I hate splinters and the smell of old lettuce. Well I found one that I like. Of course this person had to actually craft something rather than just stealing pallets from behind the grocery store. I am sure it involved not only cutting and screwing but probably also some measuring. And it shows. It’s rough but I like it. It’s industrial but looks like someone gave a shit rather than just being like a bum behind a grocery store trying to keep your newspaper out of the mud. Check it.

You have to have value added or else they are just pallets.

Low platform bed in very bright room

Love it. The platform bed is low but looks comfortable like it should. The scale of the ceilings might be freaky in person, but looks very airy and fresh in the picture. Definitely needs drapes. I would wake up in a rage and spend the day trying to kill the sun if my room were that bright. I don’t look great enough in the nude to justify that mirror either.
